Rainbow Nursery is a non
-
denominational setting serving the community of Bathgate
and other outlying areas of West Lothian. The company was established in 1988 and has
been owned by the current owners since 2003.
We have a main building
with a three stor
ies
extension which houses a Toddler (Yellow)
Room in the lower ground floor and the Tweenie (Blue) and Baby (Pink) Rooms on the
ground floor. We have a kitchen, dining area and an Out of School club (The Den) on the
first floor.

l 2013 we moved our pre
-
school service into a new building at 66 Hopetoun
Street, Bathgate. This building has its own kitchen, staff room, offices, playroom and
garden area. The room name was changed from Preschool to Rainbow Green Room in
2017.
We are ope
n 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 7.00am and
6.00pm.
We are in partnership with West Lothian Council and work with local primary schools,
specialist provisions and other Early Years establishments to which a child may be
transferr
ing or may also attend. We provide for children with a variety of needs so
have links with Health Visitors, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language
Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and the GIRFEC Team.

Our Manager
I am Susan Johnston, nursery Manager. I have over 25 years of experience in childcare and education, having completed my HNC and PDA at West Lothian College, my most recent achievement was completing my BA in childhood studies at Dundee University in 2016. Along with the directors of the company I play a key role in the ongoing success of the business through effective management, leadership and motivation, displaying a shared sense of direction, pride and energy. I aim to ensure overall effectiveness by use of self-evaluation, monitoring and a commitment to professional development. I am supported by a wonderful caring team of practitioners who are qualified and experienced. They nurture, care for and Inspire every child in their care, creating a safe and enjoyable learning environment where children can thrive and succeed and each individual’s uniqueness is celebrated

Den

Out of School Care (Breakfast Club, After School Club and Holiday Club)
Your child can attend
our
Breakfast Club
from 7am in
the morning where they will be
offered a nutritious breakfast to set them up for their day at school. Our dedicated
minibus
drivers will drop them off safely
at school
in time for the school bell.
Children
are collected from school and
arrive back to our
After School Club
where
they
are provided with a healthy snack. Children can do their homework supported by staff
if parents wish. Children can then play and relax in
our
safe and stimulating
surroundings or
enjoy
our spacious garden.
Activities
are planned by the children so

baking, arts & crafts, music and movement,
home corner

Clubs

Starting nursery is a big step for both parents and children so you are welcome to come along for a visit where the Room Leader will be happy to give you a tour of our facilities and let you meet the staff.
Prior to starting y ou can discuss settling in time for your child making it a smooth and pleasant transition f or all. All settling in time is free of charge. For more information please do not hesitate to contact us.
Throughout the year your child will be involved in a tooth brushing programme supported by West Lothian Council. All children are provided with free toothbrushes.
Good dental habits developed at an early age will be carried through to adulthood. Children learn basic hygiene principles and develop tooth brushing skills by brushing their own teeth.
At Rainbow, we understand that the experiences we offer are vital in supporting each child’s learning and development while sparking a lifelong passion for learning. This is why we offer a wide range of developmentally appropriate experiences to all ages.
As well as many indoor experiences, we also embrace outdoor learning, and all rooms have free flow access to outdoor spaces . We also have regular outings and visit community facilities, local attractions, country parks, etc. traveling on the nursery minibuses . Our Yellow and Green Room children also take part in Forest Kindergarten sessions in local woodland areas. Our Green Room children also visit a local Care Home weekly as part of our Intergenerational Project.
We have created inviting and exciting environments both in doors and outdoors that provide children wi th the opportunities to explore and investigate.
Our practitioners plan and implement experiences following the needs and interests of our children , record daily diaries and observations, and have the wellbeing of each child as their priority. They are responsible for ensuring that the children’s online Learning journals are relevant and up-to-date in order to ensure parents and caregivers can share in their child’s time in nursery.
Kevin from Football Stars Academy offers weekly sessions for Yellow and Green Room children at the nursery . Kevin understands child development at nursery level and how important sport can be to encourage ch ildren’s self - confidence and social skills through team work and fun! It also helps to develop children’s gross motor skills, co - ordination and communication.

Learning experiences are planned by our qualified team to support our youngest learners following Realising the Ambition . Our dedicated Baby Room team will nurture and care for your precious bundles within a comfortable, safe, secure and welcoming environment which has direct access to a safe and secure outdoor play area.
Blue Room
Once our babies are walking confidently on their feet they join our tweenie room. As your child begins to develop their confidence and inquisitive natural curiosities our tweenie team create a stimulating environment where each child is nurtured, cherished and cared for. Key worker staff plan activities which will help develop our tweenies interests and abilities following the Pre Birth to Three Curriculum.
Yellow Room
Children in our 2-3 room are provided with a broad range of play experiences to help develop their natural curiosity. Following the Pre Birth to Three Curriculum our toddler staff team will help to develop children’s learning through a combination of planned activities, children’s first hand experiences and most importantly through play with resources which are relevant to suit our toddlers interests and stage of development.
Green Room
We aim to work as a dedicated team, implementing the principles of GIRFEC, Building the Ambition, The West Lothian Early Years Framework and Curriculum for Excellence into our practice to create a rich learning environment where every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential and given the challenge and support needed to enable them to become Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Effective Contributors and Responsible Citizens.
Practitioners plan and implement play experiences, record observations and have the wellbeing of each child as their priority. They are responsible for ensuring that the children’s Learning Journeys are relevant and up to date. Key Workers communicate with parents, their families and carers during parent’s meetings. All Green Room staff are qualified to either HNC/Level 3 in Childcare or above.
